School Readiness at The Strawberry Bush Early Learning Academy

Starting school is an exciting milestone, but it can be a difficult time for parents who are tasked with preparing their children for a big change. The Strawberry Bush Early Learning Academy provide a Government Approved Kindergarten Program to support parents on the road towards their child’s first day at school.  

Alice Box is the Early Childhood Teacher in the Kindergarten Room at The Strawberry Bush and has had almost twenty years of experience in early learning. Alice believes that building social and emotional skills are vital for success in school and later life.  

“As we prepare children for their transition to school, we focus on finessing children’s fine motor skills, literacy and numeracy skills. We also have a strong focus on social skills and emotional resilience, so children are not only well prepared for Prep, they are also well prepared for life,” said Alice.

The Strawberry Bush Kindergarten Program follows the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG). These guidelines focus on five key learning areas: identity, connectedness, wellbeing, active learning and communicating.

“Our approach to school readiness is all about building on the QKLG key learning areas so that children have the confidence to engage with learning and have positive relationships with others,” said Alice.

Children are encouraged to build a confident self-identity through different types of play. This child focused approach to learning nurtures positive relationships between children and an enthusiasm for learning and curiosity.

“We find that children learn best when we take the stress away and let them lead their own learning. A large part of our role is to encourage and facilitate their natural curiosity,” said Alice.
